National Security Minister moves to fulfill manifesto promises
Robert Montague, National Security Minister, is taking steps to fulfil one of the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) manifesto promises of having more mobile police units across the island.
He has indicated that several options are being explored to roll out the community policing strategy as soon as possible. Among other things, the JLP's manifesto declared that within the first year, 30 small police posts will be constructed or deployed in areas identified as crime hot spots
"We are looking at retrofitting containers, repurchasing units that can be retrofitted ... each of these will be at least 15-20 minutes from police stations ... you will keep the police presence out there...," the National Security Minister said.
